YOUNGSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KICKS OFF THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR!
Youngsville Elementary School kicked off the 2019-2020 school year in JAG style this week! The year actually began last Friday, the official first day of school. Two assemblies were held to introduce our students to new principal Mr. Frank Wiggins, to talk about our ROAR expectations, and share this year’s theme: Learning Takes You Places! During the first nine weeks, we will focus on learning in our community.
In addition to Mr. Wiggins, we welcomed new faculty and staff members this year including Mrs. Leslie Pope, Digital Literacy Coach, Mrs. Georgia Crudup, instructional assistant, Mrs. Ebony Miller, instructional assistant, Mrs. Carrie Rogers, 4th grade teacher, and Ms. Christiana Hauser, 3rd grade teacher. Mrs. Pope’s role this year is to transform our media center to a collaborative digital/media learning commons. She will work collaboratively with our teachers to develop lessons that incorporate media and technology tools in lessons. Students will use those tools to create, collaborate, communicate, and think critically. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) activities will be incorporated as well. We are excited about the possibilities!
Our Jr Jags in grades 1-5 came back to school ready to learn. In addition to PBIS, the first day focus was on establishing relationships. Students are settling into their routines and are putting ROAR into practice. They are showing respect, demonstrating acts of kindness, practicing safe behaviors, and being responsible. We are very proud of them!
Learning began full throttle this week! Teachers and students jumped right into read alouds, journal writing, centers, Daily5 start up, mini-lessons, interpreting data, problem-solving, genetic traits and much more!
We had an open house for kindergarten on Thursday evening. Kindergarten students reported to YES for their first day today. We are excited to bring our youngest scholars in to begin their school journey.
Thanks to everyone on the YES team for their hard work this week and for the positive energy you have brought to the opening of school! We are looking forward to a great school year!
