Mrs. Lisa Lawrence

Mrs. Lawrence has been teaching for 18 years. She taught primarily high school English here at FHS for 12 years, but 17 years ago started the theatre program that is her main focus today. Mrs. Lawrence received an associate degree in Industrial Engineering in 1980 and an undergraduate degree in English from Peace College in 1999. She founded and is the president of the local community theatre and enjoys watching students gain confidence, find themselves, and work with a diverse group while on stage. Mrs. Lawrence and her husband have two children and five grandchildren with whom they gladly share all their spare time. Email Mrs. Lawrence

Mr. Southerland

Derek Southerland attended East Carolina University starting in 2006 where he studied euphonium, conducting, and music education. He graduated in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in music education. In 2011, Mr. Southerland started working as the band director at Franklinton High School. While at FHS, Mr. Southerland lead the concert band, jazz band, marching band, and winterguard. Mr. Southerland left North Carolina in the fall of 2015 to begin working on his master's degree at the University of Arkansas. He was a graduate teaching assistant of the Marching Razorbacks, and he also conducted the UofA Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, and Wind Ensemble. He graduated in 2017 with a master's degree in conducting. Mr. Southerland lives in Greenville with his wife, Katy, their cat and their two dogs. Email Mr. Southerland
