Mr. Beckstrand

 

Mr. Beckstrand graduated from the School of Communication Arts in Raleigh in 2005. He worked as a 3D Animator and Graphic Designer for a variety of companies over the last 15 years. He and his family moved to Franklinton in 2017 and he volunteered to serve as an assistant coach for football, basketball and baseball at Franklinton Middle School. Mr. Beckstrand also assisted in designing the Boys and Girls Club and the STEAM lab at FMS.He is now in his first year at FHS and teaches Visual and Video Design.

Mr. Curtis

 

An American actor known for his roles in both serious drama and light comedy. He was nominated for an Academy Award, BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award for his role in “The Last Detail” in 1973.   He co-starred in “The Midnight Express” and was nominated for an Emmy Award for his portrayal of U.S. President Lyndon Johnson in “ LBJ: The Early Years.”  He also received nominations for his roles in “ A Streetcar named Desire” and “Elvis”.  He is also known for his role of Cousin Eddie in the “National Lampoon’s Vacation” Movies. 

 That’s American actor Randy Quaid.

Mr. Curtis, on the other hand, is a Master Carpenter and Lateral entry teacher at Franklinton High, who enjoys teaching as much as he enjoys learning.

Mrs. Margaret Esselborn

Ms. Esselborn is a National Board Certified Teacher (NCBT).  She has a degree in Business Education from NC A & T University. Ms. Esselborn teaches business classes including Microsoft Office programs, Personal Finance and Principles of Business.

Mr. Grissom

Mr. Grissom spent 29 years at IBM retiring as an IT engineer, having started building subassemblies for computers. He also did software engineering and manufacturing engineering. While working there he joined Franklinton Rescue and EMS and volunteered for 27 years and an EMT progressing to Paramedic. After leaving IBM, he began working full time at Franklin County EMS as a paramedic and retired there as a Field Training Officer.

Ms. Sarah Harkey

Ms. Harkey graduated from the University of Mount Olive in May of 2017. Ms. Harkey teaches Horticulture and Animal Science. She is also one of the FHS FFA club advisors and she is excited to help every student.

Mrs. Holley has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education and Master of Arts in Teaching in Family and Consumer Science Education from North Carolina A&T State University. Mrs. Holley teaches Family and Consumer Sciences classes including Apparel and Interior Design.

Mr. Tommy Kemp

Mr. Kemp graduated from FHS in 1978 and from there he went to North Carolina State University earning degrees in Animal Science and Agronomy in 1983. Mr. Kemp work in Agribusiness sales for Gold Kist out of Atlanta until he came home to farm until 1999. During that time, Mr. Kemp also earned a BA in Political Science and History at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1996. Mr Kemp went to work for Franklin County Schools as an Agriculture teacher in August of 1999. He earned his Master's Degree in Agriculture Education from North Carolina State University in 2003. Mr. Kemp earned his National Board Certification in Career & Technical Education in 2004 and recertified in 2013. Mr. Kemp coached golf at FHS from 2000 to 2005 and earning Conference Coach of the Year his last three years of coaching. Mr Kemp earned a Master's Degree in School Administration from North Carolina State University in 2011. Mr. Kemp also has served as Co-FFA Advisor during his 19 years of teaching, all at FHS.

Mrs. Maria Styers

Department Chair

Mrs. Styers graduated from Louisburg High School. After graduation from Meredith College, she worked in the interior design field for seven years. She has taught a variety of Family and Consumer Science classes at Franklinton High School since 1998 and now teaches only culinary arts classes. She attended North Carolina Central University to earn her licensure and East Carolina University to earn her Masters in Career and Technical Education. Mrs. Styers is National Board Certified. She is the chair of the Career and Technical Education Department and serves as Lead Mentor at FHS, working with new teachers.

Mrs. Kaitlyn Trotter

Mrs. Trotter is a National Board Certified teacher.  She attended East Carolina University as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. Upon graduation, she returned to her alma mater, Franklinton High School, as a Family and Consumer Sciences educator. Mrs. Trotter now teaches Introduction to Culinary Arts and Culinary Arts 1.

Mr. Clarence Walker

Mr. Walker, 1979 FHS graduate, is a life long resident of Franklin County and came to FHS as a Lateral Entry Teacher. He atttended St. Augustine’s College and completed his vocational teaching certification at Southwestern Community College. He completed his NCCER certification in 2009. Mr. Walker has coached several athletic teams for Franklin County for the last 37 years. Mr. Walker enjoys helping others and serving his community. He is the FHS SkillsUSA advisor.
