AIG

Franklin County Schools has both screening and referral processes that lead to AIG identification at all grade levels. 

Screening: All 2nd graders take the CoGAT aptitude test in the spring, where most students are first identified for AIG services. However, identification is ongoing through elementary and secondary years using both quantitative and qualitative measures. 

AIG Identification Areas for FCS

Referral: The purpose of the referral process is to establish a method for identifying additional students who may not have been recognized during the screening phase. Referrals can be made by teachers, administrators, staff, parents, or students (self). Referrals can happen at any grade level and at any point during the school year.

The FCS elementary AIG program provides differentiated instruction for all students as part of core classroom learning with the students primary teacher.  Additional support for identified gifted learners include pull-out sessions with qualified AIG staff, and may also include flexible cluster grouping, project-based learning, academic competitions, and opportunities for acceleration.

Middle school AIG students receive advanced instruction through their primary teachers as part of our district’s advanced courses in math and ELA. These classes are available to both formally identified AIG students and high-performing students who meet the district’s minimum criteria. Student progress is closely monitored by classroom teachers and the Secondary AIG Facilitator to ensure continued growth and appropriate academic challenges.

Placement Criteria: Middle School Advanced Classe

High school students in Franklin County Schools’ AIG program have access to a variety of advanced learning opportunities tailored to their academic strengths and interests. They can enroll in advanced math and ELA courses, participate in academic competitions, and take advantage of differentiated instruction.
