October 18, 2024

Louisburg, NC – Franklin County Schools (FCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of three current district leaders into new roles as part of a reorganization plan. No new positions have been added as a result of this reorganization. Instead, these appointments tap into existing district level talent, reflecting FCS’s commitment to excellence in operations, human resources, and auxiliary services.

Mike Zalewski has been named Assistant Superintendent of Operations. In this role, Zalewski will oversee Human Resources and Auxiliary Services, acting as the point of contact when Superintendent Dr. Rhonda Schuhler is unavailable. Zalewski has been with FCS since January 2014, serving in various roles, including Director/Supervisor of Human Resources and, most recently, Chief of Human Resources since July 2020.

Freda Clifton has been appointed Executive Director of Human Resources. Clifton will oversee all aspects of the district's human resources operations and report directly to Mr. Zalewski. Clifton brings extensive experience to this role, having served as the Executive Director of Personnel & Equity since July 2020 and as the Director of Professional Learning from July 2016 to June 2020.

Dr. Larranda Spivey has been named Executive Director of Auxiliary Services, where she will oversee the district's Transportation, Maintenance, and Child Nutrition departments. Dr. Spivey, who will report to Mr. Zalewski, has been the Director of Transportation since August 2022.

"These appointments reflect our district's ongoing focus to strong leadership and operational excellence," said Dr. Rhonda Schuhler, Superintendent of Franklin County Schools. "Each of these individuals brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and vision to their roles, and I look forward to the impact they will continue to have  on our district in these new roles."
