A Strong Partnership for Students and Community: Franklinton Middle School Park Project

January 20, 2026

Louisburg, NC — Franklin County Schools is proud to partner with the Town of Franklinton and the Franklin County Board of Commissioners on a long-term, in-kind agreement that will bring new recreational opportunities to students and the Franklinton community.

Approved by both governing boards, the agreement establishes a 75-year lease with an optional 25-year extension for the development of a public municipal park adjacent to Franklinton Middle School. The coordinated approvals reflect a shared commitment to responsible planning, student safety, and community enrichment.

Under the agreement, the Town of Franklinton will fully fund, construct, operate, and maintain the park, creating high-quality recreational amenities at no construction cost to Franklin County Schools. Planned features include athletic courts, a baseball/softball field, a picnic shelter, a walking loop, and potential restroom facilities.

Safety and school operations were central to the planning process. The park will be clearly separated from the school campus through fencing, controlled access points, and secured gates. Franklin County Schools will retain priority use of all park facilities for instructional, athletic, and extracurricular purposes, with scheduling procedures developed jointly with the Town.

With approvals now complete, the Town of Franklinton and Franklin County Schools will move forward collaboratively on final execution, construction coordination, and long-term operations.

“This partnership reflects a shared commitment by Franklin County Schools, the Town of Franklinton, and the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, to invest in students, strengthen our community, and use public resources responsibly. By working together, we are creating safe, high-quality recreational spaces that support student learning, wellness, and community connection—both now and for generations to come.”
