Latest Health & Safety Guidance

    • Optional masking indoors at all times for all preK-12 students, staff and visitors to campus.  This includes sports, band and other extracurricular activities. Based upon quarantine guidance from NC DHHS and the CDC, schools will no longer be contact tracing.  If there is a COVID-19 case in a classroom or group, potentially exposed individuals will not have to quarantine if they remain asymptomatic, however testing is recommended as well as wearing a mask for 10 days after the last date of contact.   New positive case counts by school site will be updated on the FCS COVID dashboard on Fridays of each week.  Families should check the dashboard  to see the level of reported/known COVID cases in their school communities and presume possible exposure.
    • Symptomatic students/staff will be required to isolate for 5 days after the onset of symptoms and may return to school with either a negative PCR test result, a note from a health care provider clearing them to return, or after the completion of the 5 day isolation period.   Masking following isolation will be required through day 10 after symptom onset or positive test result.
    • As NCDHHS no longer recommends universal mask requirements in schools or other lower risk settings, it is imperative to recognise symptoms as early on as possible so that we can keep infections out of schools and prevent spread to others.

To mitigate the risk from late symptom reporting and testing, FCHD will ask individuals to isolate from the date of a (+) test, rather than the symptom onset date, if the gap between symptom onset and testing is more than 2 days.

If symptoms are not reported and testing is NOT performed, the isolation start date will be calculated from the day the individual is excluded from school due to symptoms. If individuals stay at home and report symptoms within 2 days of onset, the date of onset shall be used to calculate isolation. However, the reporting date will be used if symptom reporting occurs later than 2 days of symptom onset.

    • FCS will continue to encourage frequent hand washing.
