  • September 10 Update

    YES Parents,

We are now into our fourth week of school.  Our scholars continue to amaze me with the way they have adjusted to virtual learning.  They are joining Google Meets for live teacher sessions and completing their assignments.  All of us at YES are very proud of them.  I have been able to join some of the sessions and their positive attitudes and desire to learn is very evident.  Parents, thank you for all you are doing and continue to encourage your child to stay focused and work hard each day.  We understand that juggling a work schedule, family life, and school is a daunting task.

YES  teachers also continue to step up and deliver every day.  They have been flexible, creative, and persistent in navigating the unique challenges of remote learning.  They continue to go above and beyond.   They are the ingredient that makes the Youngsville Elementary “recipe” so special!

Please keep in mind that remote learning is not a perfect model.  There will continue to be challenges and frustrations.  It is important that we remember that we need for students and parents to do the best they can during remote learning.  Our schedule is designed so there are times for students to be in front of their screens and there is time for them to work independently away from the screen.  This balance will hopefully eliminate some of the fatigue students may experience.  Quality is more important than quantity.  If you have technology issues, please continue to reach out to us for support.  Keep in mind that teachers record live sessions where learning is modeled so that you can go back and watch them later if needed.

Here are a few things to remember moving forward:

Friday, September 18 will be a remote learning day for students.  They will have assignments in Google Classroom and time to catch up on any work that may be incomplete.  Teachers will not be providing live instruction on that day.  This will be a planning day for them.  Live instruction will resume on Monday, September 21.

Parents receive a weekly progress report from teachers each Friday.  This provides information on attendance and assigned work.  Interim progress reports are scheduled to go out on Tuesday, September 22.

    With Best Regards,

    Frank Wiggins

  • Franklin County Schools Families:

Franklin County Schools is encouraging district families to complete applications for free and reduced meals, or indicate their intention to purchase school meals, by Monday, August 31st.

Taking action now to apply prior to the deadline will help determine the breadth of the district’s meal service, as well as its potential structure and delivery system logistics beginning Tuesday, September 1st. Based on current state guidance, students who qualify for reduced meals for the 2020-21 school year will actually receive meals free of charge.

“Having access to an affordable, nutritious school meal is a vital component that helps maximize the learning potential of thousands of our students,” said Dr. Rhonda Schuhler, Superintendent of Franklin County Schools. “We are committed to creating solutions to any obstacles that keep our students from participating in the district’s nutrition program, regardless of the plan for student instruction (A, B or C) under which we are operating.”

FCS’ families can apply online at www.fcschools.net by visiting the “Services” tab and clicking on the “Free and Reduced Lunch Application” link in the drop down menu, which is available here: Free and Reduced Lunch Application. Families can also visit their school to complete an application.

For those families who don’t qualify for free or reduced benefits, the cost for FCS’ nutritious breakfast is $1.25, while the cost for the fresh lunch is only $2.70. Parents can preorder and prepay by contacting their schools or emailing FCS Nutrition Services for more details.

For more information about the district’s meal services:
