Warrior Gents New LHS Club

10.31.11 -Louisburg High School is proud to have the presence of a new club on campus! "Warrior Gents" is a club designed for those who desire to be energetically involved in displaying good character traits. The goal of the club is to work diligently to encourage others to stay in school. They meet monthly during the school's designed club meeting time. Recently, these students wore pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Club members also collected change that will be donated to the Susan G. Komen "Passionately Pink for the Cure" campaign.

BHS Health Students Learn CPR

10.31.11 -Health classes at Bunn High School recently learned CPR as part of their curriculum. The CPR course was taught by Jeff Bright from Franklin County Emergency Services.

LHS/TLMS Band Fruit Sale Now Through October 31

10.28.11 -Louisburg High and Terrell Lane Middle Bands' Fruit Sale is still going on at this time! Monday, October 31 will be the last day orders can be placed. Please e-mail Brian Miller for all last-minute orders.

BHS and FHS Marching Bands Successful at Competition

10.27.11 -Both the Bunn and Franklinton Marching Bands attended a NC Bandmaster's competition at Greene Central High School on Saturday. Franklinton competed in Class 2A, and won 2nd place color guard and 3rd place visual effect. Bunn competed in Class 4A, and won 3rd place percussion, 2nd place visual effect, 1st place color guard, 1st place general effect, and 1st place overall.

Elementary Fall Festivals an Annual Event in Franklin County Schools

10.26.11 -Elementary schools across the district not only love the fall, but they also love putting together Fall Festivals! Long Mill Elementary School (left) enjoyed theirs on October 10 with lots of food and fun. Several other schools in the district have already had theirs, with others still having theirs in upcoming days.

FCS Celebrates Red Ribbon Week

10.25.11 -October 24-28 is Red Ribbon Week throughout Franklin County Schools. For example, Terrell Lane Middle School has several activities planned for students. Yesterday was "Sock It to Drugs Day," where everyone wore the craziest socks they could find. Today is "Boot Out Drugs Day," where everyone is wearing boots. Other activities are planned for the remainder of the week, including "Tie Down Drugs" on Wednesday (everyone finds the craziest ties to wear), "Shade Out Drugs Day" on Thursday (everyone wears shades), and "Red Day" on Friday (anything red can be worn). Participation in fun events such as these helps promote drug free awareness!

BES Students Engage in Japanese Culture and Lifestyle Lesson

10.25.11 -Did you know most apartments in Japan are only 10 feet by 8 feet? Did you know Japan has two alphabets all students must learn? AIG students at Bunn Elementary learned about Japanese culture and lifestyle from Mrs. Beth Ward. Ward lived in Japan for 18 years until deciding to attend college in the United States. Currently, Mrs. Ward teaches Japanese at an all boys' school in Virginia. In this picture, Mrs. Ward is demonstrating how to correctly write various words in Japanese.

Alston Named 2012 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year

10.24.11 -Mr. Roosevelt Alston (center), Principal of Bunn Middle School, has been selected as the 2012 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year for Franklin County Schools. Alston was presented the award on Monday, October 24, 2011 by Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram (left) and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Lynn Henderson (right).

EBES Honors Breast Cancer Awareness

10.24.11 -On Thursday, October 13, Edward Best Elementary School had "PINK" day to support breast cancer awareness. Faculty, staff, and students were asked to wear pink to honor those affected by the disease.

FES Student Bus Safety Poster Contest Winner

10.21.11 -Congratulations to Erica Brame from Franklinton Elementary for winning third place in the NC School Bus Safety Poster contest. The posters were judged by participants from across the state that attended the North Carolina Pupil Transportation Association Conference.

Exercising a Big Part of the LES Daily Routine

10.20.11 -If you happened to be at Louisburg Elementary School on October 6, you would have seen a lot of exercising going on! That's because LES participated in "Exercise United States." Schools across the nation exercised for fifteen minutes, then passed it to another state. Third grade decided to teach each other dance moves. This is just the beginning of a full year of Healthy Alliance activities LES has planned.

BHS Marching Band Receives Awards at Festival

10.20.11 -The Bunn High School Marching Band attended a NC Bandmasters Association Marching Band Festival on Saturday at Eastern Randolph High School. This year's show was themed, "From Sea to Shining Sea: A Journey Across America." Students received a record setting score for Bunn High, along with 2nd place Color Guard, 2nd place General Effect, 1st place Visual Effect, and 2nd place Overall. Pictured are several of the student leaders after receiving their awards. The BHS band will perform in two more competitions this month, and locally at the BHS/LHS game on October 28th.

BHS FCA Event Postponed Until Next Wednesday

10.19.11 -Come join the Bunn High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes for music, fellowship, and fun! Fields of Faith has been rescheduled from Wednesday, October 19 until Wednesday, October 26th from 7:00-8:00 PM on the BHS football field. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Everyone’s invited!

LMES Students Learn Importance of Thorough Handwashing

10.19.11 -Nurse Jones came into the fourth grade classes recently at Laurel Mill Elementary School and discussed the importance of thorough handwashing. She used a lotion that glowed under blacklight and had all the students apply the lotion to their hands. She then had some of the students wash their hands in the bathroom and others use hand sanitizer to remove the lotion, and shined the light on their hands to compare hand washing to sanitizer. The students learned that while sanitizer is good in a pinch, proper handwashing is always the way to go!

LOMES Second Graders Learn About Pigeons

10.17.11 -The second grade team at Long Mill Elementary School joined up and invited Ashley Stewardson, of Vance County, to come and speak to the children about homing pigeons. This was an introduction to birds as part of their animal life cycles unit in science. Students also read, "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus," by Mo Willems. In addition, students created a project on The Life Cycle of a Bird, discussed the science behind why the birds fly home to their nesting place, as well as the history behind homing pigeons. Students also watched a video presented by Mr. Stewardson. He also provided all ninety second graders with a band that was once worn on his pigeons! This was coordinated by Rebekah Ring and collaborated by the Long Mill Second Grade Team.

Late Arrival for Elections Scheduled in May Only

10.14.11 -All schools will follow a late arrival schedule on Tuesday, May 8 due to the primary election. During a late arrival schedule, schools start two hours late on that day. Please note: there will not be a late arrival day during the November elections. Once the 2012-13 calendar is developed, late arrivals will be noted.

AIG Teachers Attend Annual Conference at East Carolina University

10.13.11 -AIG Lead Teacher Beth Denton (far right) and AIG Specialists (from left to right) Michelle McGhee, Jane Riggs, Cindy Walker and Amanda Joyner attended ECU's 5th Annual Gifted Education Conference in Greenville on October 5. This year's theme, "Hands On, Hearts On, Minds On," reflected on the focus of social and emotional needs of gifted students. Several prominent names in the field of gifted education were there to present, including Dr. Rick Courtright, Dr. Pat Schuler, and Dr. Mary Ruth Coleman.

Student Artwork to be Displayed at NC State Fair October 13-23

10.12.11 -Over 80 Franklin County students in all grade levels had artwork selected this year to be judged at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh this week. Artwork will be on display throughout the duration of the fair, so be sure to check it out! Click here for a sample of the many pieces submitted from our district this year.

FES Students Encouraged to be Successful and Stay in School

10.11.11 -On Wednesday, September 28, retired Franklinton High School teacher and coach Mr. Lester Wilder spoke to Mrs. Vick's fourth grade class at Franklinton Elementary School. With thirty years of experience in the classroom and coaching, he had a wealth of information to share with the students. He stressed to the class that in order to become a successful athlete and student, one must: listen, follow directions, show respect at all times, become a team player, make smart choices, work hard, assume responsibility, learn to get along with people, make good grades and stay in school. Mr. Wilder was invited to speak to the class after they had finished reading, "Baseball Saved Me."

BES Students Learn Benefits of Milk and Calcium

10.10.11 -Mrs. Maxine Gordon, cafeteria manager at Bunn Elementary School, recently shared the importance of having Milk and Calcium in your daily meals with Mrs. Barham’s and Mrs. Wood’s fourth grade classes. Each child was given a milk carton, of their choice, to taste. Their choices included Chocolate, Skim, or Low Fat. The students compared the amount of calcium and calories in each type of milk. Mrs. Gordon also shared with them the amount of calcium that is in a baby, a 10 year old, a middle aged adult, and an elderly person. She shared with them that if they do not have enough calcium as they get older, they could be at risk for Osteoporosis. The students were then given worksheets on milk and calcium to take home.

FHS Students Enjoy New Culinary Arts Program

10.7.11 -The new Culinary Arts program has been in full swing at the new Franklinton High School under the direction of Maria Styers. Styers' class prepared canapés (finger sandwiches) as part of our study on salads, garnishes and sandwiches. The students (pictured left) wore their culinary uniforms for the first time. Students love the program and look forward to studying and creating wonderful food items!

EBES Holds Hispanic Parent Night

10.6.11 -During a Parent Night for Hispanic Students at Edward Best Elementary School, students enjoyed a treat after working hard on learning activities, while their parents met with teachers from each grade level. ESL teacher Yvonne Townsley and Spanish teacher LaTeisha Washington were also present to answer questions and translate.

Grandparents Week a Success in FCS

10.5.11 -Recently, grandparents from across the district enjoyed delicious and healthy school meals with their grandchildren at school. Pictured left is a grandmother and her grandchild eating lunch at Bunn Elementary School. This is an annual event that is always enjoyable among families.

LMES Students and Staff Prepare for Winter Early

10.4.11 -Students at Laurel Mill Elementary School, along with staff, were overjoyed recently with the talent and generosity of a local group of ladies in Louisburg. This group of around 10-12 ladies, called "Looming with Love," meet regularly at the Louisburg Senior Citizens Center. A few of the ladies who loom from home made scarves and toboggans for everyone at LMES to enjoy. The group recently visited the school to distribute these to everyone.

Golf Benefit for BHS Baseball

10.4.11 -The Bunn High School Baseball program is hosting a Golf Benefit at The River Golf and Country Club on Friday, October 14 with a 12:00 noon start time. Four-member teams are needed to fill the tournament. The cost is $250 per team, including a meal to follow the tournament.

Miracle League in Full Swing

10.3.11 -Thursday, September 29 marked the first game for the Miracle League of Franklin County! Players and their buddies had a great evening on the Louisburg High School softball field. The Miracle League continues to raise money to fund the new field on the campus of Long Mill Elementary School in Youngsville. FES Welcomes New Students

9.30.11 -New students at Franklinton Elementary School, excluding kindergartners, were treated to a welcoming party last week by the school counselor, Harolyn S. Harvey. Students received small gifts and lots of food in effort to help them with their transition.

BES Class Makes Quilt for Silent Auction

9.29.11 -Mrs. Brannan's second grade class at Bunn Elementary School worked with classroom volunteer, Nancy Joyner. They made an animal ABC quilt for the P.T.A.'s "Save the Playgrouond" silent auction. The students are making plans with Ms. Joyner to sew bookmarks and bookbags as they earn A.R. certificates. Their project throughout the school year will be creating a quilt featuring their favorite books. The silent auction is being held tonight at the school. Local Author Visits LES

9.28.11 -Louisburg Elementary School received a visit from a local author, Cheryl Brown-Avery. Avery has written a series of books with a character from her childhood, Annie The Mule. The students enjoyed a reading of, "Annie The Mule Goes To The State Fair."

YES Kindergartners Enjoy Visit from Youngsville Mayor

9.27.11 -Mayor Sam Hardwick visited Youngsville Elementary Kindergarten students recently. He told the children about his job as Mayor of the town and answered many questions from some very curious five year olds. Mayor Sam likes to play video games, loves NC State football, and drives a truck. Mayor Sam wants to remind all children to "always tell the truth."

Second Grade Scientists Found at Edward Best

9.26.11 -Second Grade Scientists at Edward Best Elementary School planted four kinds of apple seeds to find out which ones would sprout first. This activity in the media center was part of a cross curricular apple discovery unit including literature, science, math and social studies.

LHS vs. FHS Game Rescheduled for Monday

9.23.11 -The Louisburg vs. Franklinton game scheduled at Louisburg for Friday, September 23 has been rescheduled for Monday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. at LHS.

LES United Way Spelling Bee Champions

9.23.11 -Louisburg Elementary School took home the "bee" trophy as the champions of this year's United Way Spelling Bee Competition on Thursday, September 22. They defeated the Central Office, who came in second place. Tied for third place were Bunn Elementary and Franklinton High School. Dale Byrns, Chairman of the United Way of Franklin County Board of Directors, would like to thank all teams who participated in this successful event. This year's spelling bee raised an estimated amount of $3,700!

BHS Homecoming Rescheduled for Saturday

9.22.11 -All Bunn High School Homecoming activities have been rescheduled from Friday, September 23 to Saturday, September 24 due to inclement weather. The homecoming parade will begin at 4:30 p.m., and the game versus Roanoke Rapids will begin at 6:00 p.m.

LHS To Hold Parent Nights in September

9.21.11 -Louisburg High School's Student Services Department will be holding two parent nights this month. The first parent night is for seniors beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22 at LHS. The second parent night is for sophomores beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29. Make Sure Your Sixth Grader Has Their Tdap Vaccine Today!

9.20.11 -The date is nearing for all sixth graders in our school district to have on file proof of having the Tdap vaccine. If your child has not received their vaccine by this Friday, September 23, they are not allowed to return to school until they show proof. Franklin County Schools has partnered with the Franklin County Health Department to provide a walk-in Tdap vaccine clinic on Friday, September 23 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact your school’s nurse.

Physical Education Teachers Participate in SPARK Training

9.19.11 -Physical Education teachers throughout Franklin County Schools and surrounding districts have been participating in staff development this year on the SPARK program. SPARK stands for "Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids." This program is being implemented in grades K through 8 in our school district. The program is designed to have many effects on a school's Physical Education program, including academic achievement, increased moderate to vigorous physical activity in students, fitness achievement (as measured by the Fitnessgram test), sport skills development (throw, catch, kick), enjoyment of PE, and improved teacher instruction (quantity and quality). Exceptional Children Staff Participate in CPR and First Aid Training

9.19.11 -FCS Exceptional Children Pre-K teachers and related service providers participated in CPR and first aid a couple of weeks ago courtesy of Franklin County Emergency Services. This class provided the group with certification to further help their students who may need special attention. They pride ourselves in creating a firm foundation for our students and families beginning their years in Franklin County Schools. Pre-K students began school September first at LES, RES, and LMES.

LES Celebrates International Literacy Day

9.16.11 -On Thursday, September 8, students at Louisburg Elementary School celebrated International Literacy Day. To celebrate this day, LES students welcomed students from Louisburg College to their classrooms to read a favorite book. Once the value of reading is learned, the students can one day be college bound!

9.15.11 -Ronald McDonald made his presence at Youngsville Elementary School on September 2 to discuss the importance of staying active. When you ask YES Principal Rick Smith (back left) or any of his students how much they learned, they will give you two thumbs up!

FHS Athletic Boosters to Hold Chicken Plate Sale Friday

9.14.11 -The Franklinton High School Athletic Boosters will be holding a Chicken Plate Sale on Friday, September 16 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the old Franklinton High School gym. The cost is $7.00 per plate and includes the following items: half of a chicken, potatoes, green beans, and bread. Delivery is available if notified by Thursday, September 15. United Way Spelling Bee Set for Thursday, September 22

9.12.11 -The United Way of Franklin County will be holding their annual Spelling Bee on Thursday, September 22 at Franklinton High School in the cafeteria. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m., and the competition will begin at 7:00 p.m. School and community teams can join for an entry fee of $100 per team. The same rules apply to the competition as in the past. The deadline for teams to register is this Thursday, September 15. Three FCS Elementary Schools to Participate in Grant Program

9.7.11 -Students at Franklinton, Laurel Mill, and Louisburg Elementary Schools will be able to have their fruit and vegetables daily thanks to a grant program funded by the USDA. This program, called the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, will provide these three schools with the funding to be able to provide fruits and vegetables for free to students throughout the school day. Beginning Tuesday, September 13, fresh fruits and vegetables will be available to students at these schools at their scheduled time on select days. The goal of the program is to make a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables easily accessible to students so they will eat and enjoy them more often. The program also creates a healthier school environment.

Schools Closed Monday in Observance of Labor Day

9.3.11 -All schools and offices throughout the school district will be closed on Monday, September 5, 2011 in observance of Labor Day. School will resume on Tuesday. Have a great long weekend!

BHS Student Earns Highest Rank

9.2.11 -Chad Kibbe, a Junior at Bunn High School, has attained the Boy Scout of America’s highest rank of Eagle Scout. In addition to earning 29 merit badges over the course of his five years of Scouting as a member of Troop 500 in Wake Forest, Chad researched, planned, implemented, and supervised a service project that was the culmination of his journey to becoming an Eagle Scout. Chad’s project involved building 2 sets of 40 feet long, 4-tiered risers in a greenhouse to support 10,000 plants that will be used to help feed many people in need throughout the community. The structures that Chad designed and built, with the help of fellow Scouts and Scout leaders, will allow for 3 times as many plants to be grown and harvested in this particular greenhouse. In addition to being an active Eagle Scout and mentor to younger Scouts, Chad is a third-year member of the Bunn High School Marching Band’s drumline.

Mustangs Welcome New Staff Members to LES

9.2.11 -Louisburg Elementary School welcome several new staff members to their school family! All of them are excited to be a part of their school community that believes in "learning for a lifetime." Kingsberry New BHS Assistant Principal

9.2.11 -Hassan T. Kingsberry is the new Assistant Principal at Bunn High School. Kingsberry began his post at the school on Thursday, August 18, 2011. He has previous experience as a Social Studies Teacher in Warren county. Kingsberry also served as an Administrative Intern at the Franklin County Early College High School and Youngsville Elementary School during the 2010-2011 school year. He also has previous experience as a Georgia and North Carolina licensed attorney.

Kingsberry holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy Analysis from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Juris Doctor Degree in Law from North Carolina Central University, and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Kindergarten Students Arrive Today Throughout FCS

9.1.11 -Today was the first day for kindergarten students throughout all traditional elementary schools in Franklin County. All students were ready and eager to start their school career! 8.30.11 -Dr. Laverne Jones Daniels, current principal of West Edgecombe Middle School in Rocky Mount, has been named the new principal of Cedar Creek Middle School. She has been principal of West Edgecombe Middle School since 2006. Prior to Edgecombe, Daniels was a principal in Moore County, as well as a teacher and assistant principal in Wake County since 1995. Daniels was an area finalist for Wake County Teacher of the Year in 1997. Prior to 1995, Daniels worked in the private industry.

Daniels holds a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Shaw University, a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from North Carolina Central University, a Masters Degree in School Administration from North Carolina State University, and a Doctor of Education Degree from North Carolina State University. Daniels also received her National Board Certification in the Early Generalist area in 2000.

Daniels will begin her post at Cedar Creek Middle School effective October 1, 2011.

Football Games Rescheduled Again

8.30.11 -Bunn High School and Louisburg High School were unable to play their football games last night, Monday, August 29. The BHS game at home versus Wilson Fike will be played tonight, Tuesday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. The LHS game at home versus Ravenscroft is being scheduled at this time and will be announced as soon as possible.

8.30.11 -The Bunn High School Wildcats welcome several new teachers to their school family. BHS and LHS Football Postponed until Monday Night

8.28.11 -Bunn High School's football game versus Wilson Fike will be held on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at BHS. Also, Louisburg High School's football game versus Ravenscroft has also been postponed until Monday night at 7:00 p.m.

First FHS Home Game a Winning One

8.27.11 - The Franklinton Red Rams J.V. and Varsity Volleyball teams made history on Tuesday, August 23 as they played their first home volleyball game in the new gymnasium at the new campus. This game was also the first game ever to be held in the gymnasium by any athletic team at the school. Both teams also won over Wake Forest-Rolesville that evening.

Early College Now Located in New Facility on VGCC Campus

8.15.11 -The Franklin County Early College High School has moved into their new facility on the campus of Vance-Granville Community College in Louisburg. CCMS to Hold Tryouts on August 18

8.15.11 -On Thursday August 18, Cedar Creek Middle School Football will be holding tryouts from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on the baseball field. Boys soccer tryouts will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on the YAKS soccer field. Girls volleyball will have tryouts from 5:00-6:35 pm in the gymnasium. A physical is required to try out for a sport.

BHS Cross Country Tryouts to Start Monday

8.10.11 -Bunn High School will be holding tryouts for Cross Country beginning on Monday, August 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the track. Tryouts will continue after the school year starts. The location will always be at the track unless otherwise posted. A physical is required in order to tryout.

Franklin County Early College to Begin Classes Tuesday

8.8.11 -The Franklin County Early College High School will begin classes on Tuesday, August 9. This is the second full year the Early College has been open on the Franklin County Campus of Vance-Granville Community College. The program began at the start of the second semester in 2009-10. Students and staff are excited as they are slated to move into their new facility on the campus around August 13. School hours are from 8:15 a.m. until 2:40 p.m. each day.

FCS Under Heat Advisory on Monday, August 8

8.8.11 -Due to extreme temperatures today, Monday, August 8, no outdoor activities or outdoor athletic practices will be allowed between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony Scheduled for August 18

8.8.11 -A ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the new Franklinton High School will be held on Thursday, August 18 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The program will begin outside the main entrance of the school. It will continue inside the auditorium with various speakers, followed by a ribbon cutting and tour of the campus. The campus is located at the intersection of Cedar Creek Road and Lane Store Road in Franklinton.

BHS Football Team to Hold Annual Pancake Breakfast

8.5.11 -The Bunn High School Football Team will be hosting its annual pancake breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, August 6 in the BHS cafeteria. The event will run from 7:00 until 10:00 a.m. Following the breakfast, picture day will be held the stadium.

Football Mini-Camp to be Held at BMS

8.5.11 -Bunn Middle School will hold football Mini-Camp for all rising 7th and 8th graders starting on August 15 from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30p.m. either at the baseball field or gym at BMS depending on weather. In order to attend and participate in activities, students must have an up-to-date physical for coaches to put on file. Students need to wear gym shorts and a t-shirt and come prepared with cleats and tennis shoes just in case of location changes. Red Ram Cross Country Practice Date Changed to August 15th

8.4.11 -Students interested in participating in Franklinton High School Cross Country this year should report to the Franklinton Recreational Park on August 15th from 6-8 p.m. This is a change from the originally planned opening practice date. In addition, students should be sure to bring proof of a current athletic physical. For more information, call FHS at (919) 494-2332.

BHS FFA Tool Identification Team Wins at Local Level; Participates in State Competition

7.28.11 -Members of the Bunn High School FFA's Tool Identification team recently won at the local level and placed in 14 out of 55 teams at the state competition hosted on Wednesday, June 22 at the Raleigh Convention Center. These members pictured at left (L to R) are: Jennifer Shearon, Cassie Ingram, and Patrick Ward. Each participant received a nice Craftsman tool kit. Many members of the BHS FFA alumni still have their tools to this day!

Franklin County Schools Heat Advisory for Thursday-Saturday

7.27.11 -Weather forecasters are calling for extremely high temperatures of with 100 degrees and above for Thursday, July 28 through Saturday, July 30. Therefore, there are to be no outdoor activities at all, at any time, Thursday, July 28 through Saturday, July 30. This includes all practices, scrimmages, etc. that may be planned.

YES Starts Off with Great School Year

7.27.11 -Youngsville Elementary School kicked the 2011-2012 school year off to a great start on Friday, July 22. Students and staff are excited to have another great school year ahead. Follow-Up Enrollment in State Health Plan for All Employees

7.21.11 -Changes were recently made by the NC General Assembly to health insurance premiums, co-pays, and deductibles. These changes go into effect on September 1, 2011. Due to these changes, the State Health Plan is conducting a follow-up enrollment between July 18-29, 2011. During this period, members will have the opportunity to change their plan elections and add eligible dependents.

If you wish to remain on the plan you enrolled in during Annual Enrollment, you will not need to do anything.

Franklin County Schools Following Heat Advisory

7.20.11 -Franklin County is under a heat advisory from Wednesday, July 20 through Friday, July 22. No outdoor activities will take place at any school after 11:00 a.m. on these days.

Franklin County Teachers Walk Through History

7.20.11 -Franklin County Schools teachers spent last week in Hyde Park, New York visiting the FDR Presidential Library and museum. In addition, the group spent time touring Springwood (FDR's residence), Top Cottage (FDR's retreat), Val Kill (Eleanor Roosevelt's retreat), as well as a Vanderbilt Mansion on the Hudson River. This event is part of a federal grant project in partnership with Durham Public Schools. At left, in front of the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, are teachers Billy Jackson (FHS), Krista McGinnis (LHS), Savannah Richards (FHS), Teri Ford (LHS), Nathan Moreschi (FHS), Orlando Corsale (FHS) and Kim Burnap (FHS). This year's focus is The Great Depression and WW II. This week, teachers are using information gained from the trip to produce classroom activities.

Youngsville Elementary to Begin School Friday

7.18.11 -Youngsville Elementary School, Franklin County's only year-round elementary school, will open its doors for students for the 2011-2012 school year on Friday, July 22. Monday, July 18 through Thursday, July 21 are Teacher Workdays for YES teachers. CCMS and FHS Band Programs to Host "Flapjack Fundraiser"

7.7.11 -The Cedar Creek Middle School and Franklinton High School Band Programs will be hosting a Flapjack Fundraiser this Saturday, July 9, 2011 from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Applebee's in Wake Forest. Plates will be $7 and include a drink, a stack of pancakes, and your choice of bacon or sausage. Come out and support these two programs as they are growing and succeeding quickly!
