September 13, 2004                                                   Louisburg, North Carolina

 

The Franklin County Board of Education met in regular session at the Wiley Mitchell Media Center. The following members were present: Bernard Hall, Paige Sayles, Johnny Alford, John May and Randy Wright.   Don Lancaster was speaking to the Home Builder’s Association and arrived late.

Bernard Hall opened the meeting with prayer. 

 

A motion was made Johnny Alford, seconded by John May, and duly carried to approve the August 9th, August 23rd and September 9, 2004 board minutes.

 

Mr. Moore presented the 2004-2005 Budget.

 

A motion was made Randy Wright, seconded by Paige Sayles, and duly carried to approve the 2004-2005 Budget Resolution. 

 

Mrs. Street distributed a request for early release days at Riverside Elementary School. This will be voted on at the next board meeting.

 

Mrs. Street distributed policy 3420 with revisions. This will be voted on at the next board meeting.

 

A motion was made by John May, seconded by Randy Wright and duly carried to approve a request from Gideons International to make new testaments available to 6th graders, contingent upon following the guidelines outlined by the administration.

 

Mr. Hall gave an update on the 2004 Bond Referendum Campaign. Mr. Hall reported that, at this time, $4600 has been raised with an additional $1000 pledged.  

 

A motion was made by Randy Wright, seconded by Paige Sayles, and duly carried to go into closed session for the purpose of G.S.143.318.11.

 

A motion was made by Johnny Alford, seconded by Randy Wright, and duly carried to return to open session.

 

A motion was made by Paige Sayles and seconded by Johnny Alford to approve the September 13, 2004 personnel.  A motion to vote on the assistant principals was made by Randy Wright.  Mr. Wright withdrew his motion to amend the motion.   The original motion to approve the September 13, 2004 personnel duly carried.

A motion was made by Randy Wright, seconded by Paige Sayles, and duly carried to approve three field trips, contingent upon following field trip guidelines and with the understanding that the administration could cancel field trips if safety becomes a concern. 

The following field trips were approved: Louisburg High School Band – New York Fesitval, Louisburg High School FBLA Club and Cedar Creek Middle School AIG to

Trinity Center at Salter Path, NC.

 

A motion was made by Randy Wright, seconded by Paige Sayles and duly carried to adjourn.
