Title I provides
federal funding for schools to help students who are behind
academically or at risk of falling behind. Funding is based on the
number of low-income children in a school, generally those eligible
for the free lunch program. Services can include: hiring teachers to
reduce class size, tutoring, computer labs, parental involvement
activities, professional development, purchase of materials and
supplies, pre-kindergarten programs, and hiring teacher assistants
or others. All eight elementary schools are Title I schools and have
a school wide program allowing more flexibility in how funds are
spent at the building level.
