Whole-Faculty Study Groups

Franklinton High staff participates in a job-embedded staff development called Whole-Faculty Study Groups.

What is a Whole-Faculty Study Group?
It is a student-driven approach to professional development.

'Whole-Faculty' means that every faculty member at a school is a member of a study group focusing on data-based student instructional needs.

In this context, a study group is a small number of individuals joining together to work ‘on the work’ with colleagues as opposed to working alone.

Why is WFSG an important staff development tool?
Provides a structure for professionals to work together to increase student learning by deepening their own knowledge and understanding of what is taught, reflecting on their practices, sharpening their skills, and taking joint responsibility for the students they teach.

The collective synergy of all the study groups advance the whole school.

How does a group accomplish these goals?
1)  Keep your focus: Students are first.
2)  Everyone participate
3)  Leadership is shared
4)  Responsibility is equal
5)  The work is public
