FRANKLIN COUNTY Evening School at the CEC using NovaNet

What is Evening School?
The Evening School is a grant funded program for students at-risk of dropping out of school in grades 8 through 12. Students will attend in the evening hours (6-9 pm) and through virtual online learning obtain course credits and work toward a 21 credit high school diploma. The program targets students who have dropped out of school and are currently working during normal school hours, or students who are currently enrolled in school but are behind in course credits needed to graduate. Licensed, experienced teachers will be available for facilitating and tutoring. A Student Support Specialist who works with at-risks students will present the program The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens weekly. The objective of the Evening School is to increase the high school graduation rate by 3%.

What will students do during their three hours in the Evening School?
Students are expected to work hard during each minute they are in the Evening School. For most, they will be making up lost ground. The majority of the time is spent in academics, the other portion in a counseling/life skills/human relations component. Each student's academic situation will be assessed to determine best strategies and approaches to ensure success. Students will retrieve courses previously failed in a course recovery program. Others will take full courses needed for graduation. Eighth grade students who have failed previous grades will be allowed to work toward a high school credit before entering high school and enter the 21 credit program which can allow the student to graduate in three years. Middle school students will be allowed to work on day school homework for 30 to 45 minutes nightly with teacher help for tutoring before starting on the virtual learning coursework.

What do students need to bring to the Evening School?
Students are required to bring a healthy attitude and the desire to be academically successful.

What about transportation to and from Evening School?
